Kakiyasu Honten was founded in 1871 as a gyunabe (beef hot-pot) restaurant. The company expanded through its meat shops which sell Matsusaka beef, original brand “Kakiyasu beef”, pork and poultry, its restaurant businesses which originated from the first gyunabe-restaurant, as well as “Beef Shigureni” is proudly made using Kakiyasu’s taste, a taste nobody can mimic.

More recently, department store delicatessens “Kakiyasu Dining” which prepares seasonal Western-style food in a special kitchen and “Sanjaku Sanzun Bashi” buffet restaurants have opened nationwide, further expanding the company into a comprehensive food company that offers options for homemade meals, eating at home and eating out. In addition, Kakiyasu Honten has continued opening stores such as its Japanese-style confectionary store “Kofukudo”, a store selling gyumeshi the taste of the secret inherited sauce foundation called “Kakiyasu Gyu Meshi”, and food court stores “Kakiyasu Meat Express”. The company was listed on JASDAQ in 2004.

Q. What are you recently focused on or what new ideas do you have for the future?

We try to be proactive in our communication with producers. We currently visit production areas together with purchasing, product development and sales managers, conduct production tours and exchange meetings, and promote activities that allow food producers and restaurants or food companies to expand together. We will continue to challenge various types of businesses tailored to the taste of our customers and develop new products unique to the well-established Kakiyasu beef brand.

Q. Do you have any memories from working with LUMINE that you would like to share?

A memorable moment was when we opened “Kakiyasu Gyu Meshi” in April 2016 within NEWoMan Ekinaka inside JR Shinjuku Station Shin-minami Area. To open a store specializing in beef bentos within NEWoMan, which was developed with the concept “For the new woman of the new era”, was a new challange for our company.
