New Retail Facility in JR Shinjuku New South Exit Area Opening Spring 2016

Company signs exclusive contract to expand Los Angeles-born Pizzeria in Japan.

Led by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT), the area of the JR Shinjuku Station New South Exit, which includes a highway bus terminal and taxi stands, is undergoing construction to transform in to a major transportation hub. Shinjuku Station serves around 3.6 million people a day, making it the world’s largest terminal station. In conjunction with the ongoing construction, JR East is developing the Shinjuku New South Exit Building (Provisional Name) scheduled to open in Spring 2016, with hopes to create a new hub of interaction with easy access.

The new building will be easily accessible by rail, highway buses and taxis, and provide leased office space featuring high standards and outstanding environmental performance; trend-setting retail facilities covering all genres from fashion to food; and cultural-exchange amenities including a multi-purpose hall to be utilized for various events. With this, JR East aims to contribute to the town development by attracting more people to the Shinjuku Station area.

The retail facilities in the new building will be operated by Lumine under the concept of "Global Communication". To meet the expectations of Shinjuku as a global city, the facility will combine global factors with elements of culture, trend and entertainment to provide a whole new retail experience for both tourists visiting Japan and office workers in the neighborhood.

In preparation, the company has formed an exclusive partnership with 800 Degrees LLC which operates 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria, the well-established pizza restaurant with 7 locations in the US, mainly in the Los Angeles area. The partnership will bring the pizzeria to Japan with its first location to open in the Shinjuku New South Exit Building (Provisional Name) and several more in the future.
